Veteran's DAy
After the assembly a friend of mine came in to talk to the class about what it means to be a Veteran. We were thankful that he shared his experiences with us.

Veteran's DAyOn Thursday, November 10 we honored our Veteran's with a wonderful school wide Veteran's Day program. The 4th and 5th grade students sang and performed to say thank you to all of those who served our country. Our first graders showed great respect and consideration during the program. It made me smile to see them shaking hands and thanking a Veteran. After the assembly a friend of mine came in to talk to the class about what it means to be a Veteran. We were thankful that he shared his experiences with us. Teacher time- math rotationsWe had an excellent math lesson today! During math rotations I worked with students on the concept of adding a number to 10. The students had to show how to use a ten frame to make 10 and then add to it. Each group began by using star manipulatives. Once they were secure with this, they drew circles to model this concept. Finally, if they were up for the challenge a few groups got to try adding larger numbers. They left the table talking about how they were "Math Masters!" How to make a fruit popDuring writers workshop we have been writing how-to pieces. Today I read the story Fruit Pops to the class. This was the perfect book to model how to writing. After reading, the class had to write the steps needed to make a lemonade pop. Once they finished their How-To piece they brought their writing to the back table to read to me. I followed each of the steps they read. If they wrote clear, specific steps they ended up with a fruit pop to enjoy! This lesson also fit perfectly with our science unit on solids, liquids and gas. Before reading the book Earth's Water we reviewed the vocabulary in the story. These words fit perfectly with our science unit on the states of matter. Here are a few pictures of the students working together to match science vocabulary with the picture. Here are a few more pictures from this week including our "How to Blow a Bubble with Bubble Gum" lesson!
