Here are the steps:
1. Underline the talking vowel sounds and mark them with a v
2. Swoop between the vowels, pull down the consonants and mark them with a c.
3. Divide according to the pattern. (We know VC/CV and V/CV as of now).
4. Decide what type of syllable (open, closed) and mark the vowel sound (short, long).
We soon will learn two new syllable types: magic e and vowel teams.
Then the students get to use their highliter to get the division line all "juicy" and literally divide the word into syllables. The kids LOVE doing this. I love hearing how much they enjoy doing this even though if not taught well can be confusing (and boring!).
