As the students get comfortable in 1st grade I wanted to make sure that they understand a very important lesson for the year and in life: everyone makes mistakes. Often times we see children get upset when they don't know how to spell a word, when they move their clip, or when they don't get all the answers correct on a paper or test. I read 3 amazing books and had great discussions about how mistakes are ok and that nobody is perfect. We talked about how we can learn from our mistakes and make them into something beautiful.
It was wonderful to hear the students comfortably pointing out their mistakes throughout the week. While paining one little girl spilled her water. Instead of getting upset she sweetly said, "Oops, I made a mistake." This made my heart smile. The students were kind enough to point out my mistakes throughout the week and I let them know I make them all the time :) What a sweet group of students. Hopefully, this message will set the tone for a great year!
"Mistakes are proof that you are trying."
"No one is perfect. That is why pencils have erasers."
