![]() We had a great week learning about the sound of ch! You will notice that we do "anchor activities" for each new phonics sound. For ch, we focused on chocolate! We read a story about chocolate, wrote an opinion piece about the best chocolate food, and to make it very concrete and memorable for the students, we sampled 3 kinds of chocolate chips! We made a tally chart to show our class's favorite type of chocolate. White chocolate, to my surprise, was the winner! We have ch posted in the room on our phonics wall with a little chocolate chip to remind us of this lesson throughout the year. Students also had fun writing ch words on paper chains. Next week we are learning about the consonant digraph sh.

![]() After reading Happy School Year, we talked about how we could make the start of a new school year special like a birthday is special. Each student wrote about their new school year wish. Then we gave each student a cupcake, counted to three, and they blew out their candles (well, pretended to since they weren't lit) while making their new school year wish. They were so excited and it is such a fun way to celebrate the first day of school! |
